Each year the Lions Clubs of Filey and Ryedale have played a social golf competition .
The idea is to include both those who play regularly and those who have perhaps played a bit in the past or not at all.
The teams of two take it in turns to play a shot and the winners are those who win more holes than their opponents.
The "Cup of shame" is then presented to the losing captain after a convivial dinner together.
We have used the Black Bull just outside Pickering once and the 9 hole course at Snainton three times but this year we are returning to play on the Academy Course at the Filey Golf Club.
The arrangements this year will be different because Ryedale have quite a few more members who would like to play than Filey, but Filey have more regular golfers. The consequence will be that we will mix up players from the two clubs so everyone who wants to can take part.
Quite how that is going to work out will be revealed on the night!
At least the afford-mentioned cup will not be in our trophy cabinet again.
